Reuter Elected Tucson Metro Chamber Board Chair

The Tucson Metro Chamber announces the election of the 2018-19 board chair, six new board members and the full slate of board members.

The Tucson Metro Chamber board of directors elected Barbi Reuter, president for Cushman & Wakefield | PICOR, as chair of the board for the 2018-2019 term. Reuter has held a seat on the board of directors since 2016 and has volunteered countless hours working with the Chamber on business and community issues.

Reuter’s affiliation with Cushman & Wakefield | PICOR began with the firm’s opening in 1985, epitomizing a true success story, Reuter rose to the top in her years with PICOR and became president in 2017, leading the employee-owned commercial real estate firm’s activity in Southern Arizona. Active in community and industry efforts, she serves on the boards of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, Tucson Girls Chorus, and is an advisory board member for Real Estate Tech News and TREND Report.

Reuter is the fourth woman to be elected as chair of the Tucson Metro Chamber Board of Directors and this is the first time in the Chamber’s history that women are seated in both leadership positions of board chair and president and CEO.

“Barbi Reuter is a dedicated community leader and she’ll be key in advancing the Chamber’s efforts to be the connector of leaders and influencers, the catalyst for business growth and the champion for a stronger community,” said Amber Smith, president and CEO of the Tucson Metro Chamber. “Under Barbi’s leadership the Chamber will be poised to address community issues such as workforce development and talent attraction, economic expansion, and infrastructure improvements, as well as provide pro-business advocacy and support for businesses of all sizes.”

Reuter succeeds Larry Lucero, senior director of government affairs and economic development for UNS Energy Corporation and Tucson Electric Power, who served as chairman since July 2017. Lucero’s service on the Tucson Metro Chamber board will continue as he becomes immediate past chairman.

Newly appointed members of the Tucson Metro Chamber Board of Directors include:

Grant Anderson, president & CEO Paragon Space Development Corporation. Anderson is responsible for the design and implementation of many of Paragon’s technical achievements and established processes of engineering rigor in a stepped approach of requirements, design, build, test and delivery at the company.

 

Kathy Arnold, director of environment for Hudbay Mineral’s Arizona Business Unit. She works on permitting, mitigation, planning and compliance activities for the Rosemont Copper Project. As part of her duties, Arnold directs operations for the 30,000-acre Rosemont Ranch and also leads the corporate affairs team that manages communications, stakeholder management, government affairs and community giving.

 

Kathi Beranek, director, government relations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Beranek has more than 25 years of experience working as a lobbyist and staffer for state government, including five years as Arizona Governor Jane Hull’s policy advisor. Kathi has been with BCBSAZ for over 12 years, representing the company at the State Legislature.

 

Manuel Ramos, president & chief operating officer for ASARCO LLC. Ramos has been instrumental in leading ASARCO back into profitability while increasing productivity at its operations, maximizing the potential of its properties and emphasizing concentrated efforts on safety and environmental compliance.

 

Paula Register, CEO of Tucson Orthopaedic Institute. Register has more than 30 years of executive leadership experience in the health care and public education industry. She has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions as well as physician group operations and leadership development work having worked as a CEO/senior vice president of both hospital owned management services organizations and large physician enterprises.

 

Cristie Street, managing partner for Nextrio. Street co-founded Nextrio, a Tucson-based IT consulting firm of more than 40 IT professionals, fifteen years ago. With Street at the helm, Nextrio has been recognized by Inc. 5000 as one of the fastest growing businesses in the U.S. and recently was one of two Arizona-based companies to rank in the top 500 of IT service providers worldwide.
