Continuing our award ceremony series, the President’s Award for Excellence and the Peter H Douglas Heart and Soul Award recognize individuals who have not only excelled in their professional roles but have also made significant and personal contributions to our company culture and the Tucson community.
The President’s Award for Excellence was established in 1989 by our founder, Mike Hammond. This award recognizes someone who has made an everlasting impact at C&W | PICOR and who elevates our company in the community. Recipients of this award exemplify our core values, consistently go above and beyond, and embody unwavering dedication. This year, the President’s Award for Excellence was presented to Rob Tomlinson.
Tomlinson, Retail Specialist, joined C&W | PICOR in 2005 and has been an active broker in commercial real estate since 1996.
In addition to being the Director of the PICOR Charitable Foundation, Tomlinson is on the Boards of: Metropolitan Pima Alliance, Southern Arizona CCIM Chapter, Gospel Rescue Mission, and has served on the Planning Commissions of both Tucson and Sahuarita and continues to donate his time and efforts to various land-use related committees in an effort to improve our community.
“I believe in leaving things in better condition than I find them. Effecting positive change is the most essential characteristic of the real estate business and is one of C&W | PICOR’s core values. When we help someone find a location for a new business or help to expand someone’s existing business, we are helping people and the community in a very fundamental way. It’s exciting to be engaged in such a positive way in people’s lives. The process requires integrity, persistence, and creativity which are all fundamental qualities that C&W | PICOR exemplifies,” said Tomlinson.
Since he began his career at C&W | PICOR, he has been a key player in our annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser, an employee-led event to help underprivileged youth programs in Tucson and Southern AZ that has raised $1,470,000 since its inception.
“The ability to help the most vulnerable members of our community while having fun is an opportunity I think most people would be attracted to. I was really excited to be given the opportunity to be more deeply involved in the Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser by assuming the role of Director. It is something that is very important to me, personally, and something that I am very proud to be involved with.”
Reuter says “Rob has been with us for nearly two decades and has never asked for the spotlight or recognition. He is humble, self-effacing, and outwardly focused. He shares his insights, protects our brand internally and externally, and has a servant’s heart. He has contributed to the community in countless ways, serves our foundation, leads with integrity, and had a breakout year advising his clients.”
Secondly, the Peter H Douglas Heart and Soul Award was established in 2017 to honor Peter H. Douglas, one of Cushman & Wakefield | PICOR’s founding partners who passed away in 2014, the Peter H. Douglas Heart and Soul Award pays tribute to his influence and attention to company culture in his 27 years of dedicated service.
This award recognizes an individual who exhibits exceptional care for their colleagues, displaying qualities of empathy, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive difference within our company and often in the Tucson community. This year, Joey Martinez was awarded the Peter H Douglas Heart & Soul Award. When presented with the award he said, “In my personal life and in my professional life I feel I always do things honestly and treat everyone as equals. My wife and one year old son are the most important people in my life and I know they are proud of what I have accomplished at C&W | PICOR. I value relationships and time spent with those most important to me. I pride myself on the impact I’ve made in our community through the Empower Coalition and the growth we’ve had on the Multifamily team. I look forward to continuing to represent C&W | PICOR professionally in the Tucson region and I’m absolutely honored to have received the PHD Heart and Soul Award.”
Martinez joined Cushman & Wakefield | PICOR’s Multifamily brokerage team in 2019. He says, “Since joining the C&W | PICOR family I have felt extremely welcome by not only leadership and the principals at the company, but the employees as well. This makes the work environment feel more like a family than coworkers. I have extreme pride in being out in public and knowing that I can stand behind our well-known company. I’m part of a great team here on the Multifamily and Investment Sales division and have had great mentorship from Allan Mendelsberg, my partner. I’m excited to come to work every day because I know the opportunities that come from working at a company like C&W | PICOR. I’ve recently become a Shareholder in 2023 at the company and I’ve felt very welcome at the decision-making table. The leadership listens to my ideas and gives feedback when necessary.”
Similar to Tomlinson, Martinez has been actively engaged in the Tucson community. Since 2020, Martinez has volunteered for the Empower Coalition and assumed a role on the board in 2021. The Empower Coalition raises funds for Veterans, Active Military, and their families in Southern AZ. “I’ve always held our service men and women in the highest regard and think that what they do for our country is the most selfless act possible. While I haven’t served our country, I’m extremely honored to support our service troops”, said Martinez.
Barbi Reuter, CEO of C&W | PICOR, says “Joey is often the first to ask insightful questions, particularly about how a company decision might impact an individual or a team. He has concern for how things land, is a gracious wingman, a stellar and patient trainer, and a valued voice at the shareholder table. Outside the company, he is a fierce supporter of veterans through the Empower Coalition and a devoted son, husband, and dad. We are very fortunate to have Joey keeping Peter’s legacy alive!”
