Tucson’s 5 Ts – Mayor Rothschild Promotes His Plan at State of the City

In his recent appeal to the Tucson Metro Chamber audience and in forums at Tucson CREW and CCIM, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild rallied the business community around the region’s stated Five Ts or five strengths: Technology, Trade, Transportation, Tourism and Teaching.

  1. Technology: Build on University of Arizona Tech Launch incubator and region’s recognition as hub for entrepreneurs. Water delivery technology, support of defense and Air Force base missions and internship programs were also highlighted.
  2. Trade: Consistent with Cushman & Wakefield | PICOR’s 10-year presence and relationships in Sonora, Mexico, Rothschild keyed in on our trade partnership and growing cross-border business opportunities with Mexico. Mexican sugar producer, Zucarmex, was simultaneously announced as a new tenant and employer at Port of Tucson.
  3. Transportation: While silent on the proposed Interstate 11 which has been in the news of late, the Mayor stressed the importance of consistent expansion lanes on Interstate 10 between Tucson and Phoenix and Interstate 19 south to Sonora.
  4. Tourism: A focus on improving Tucson’s infrastructure and supporting downtown revitalization to increase the city’s attractiveness to visitors and potential employers.
  5. Teaching: Increase state funding to schools to move our state from dead last in education funding per child to mid-range; local commitment to expedite rezoning of closed public schools for reuse.
