With the unprecedented support of corporate and individual donors, PICOR Charitable Foundation (PCF) raised a record high $45,545 and donated the total, dollar for dollar, to not-for-profits serving disadvantaged youth in greater Tucson. Giving in 2011 represents an impressive 35% increase over 2010 and brings PCF’s total grants to Tucson charities in excess of $533,000.
In addition to topping previous funds raised and granted, the annual pancake breakfast event served a record 2,400 people, many from community agencies. PICOR employees and their families volunteered countless hours making the event and the grants possible. Davis Bilingual Magnet School mariachis and Tucson Girls Chorus Hummingbirds and Ladybugs performed at the breakfast.
Grants in amounts from $500 to $3,000 were made to 35 organizations, and included donations for such needs as shoes, clothing, eyeglasses, formula, books, support, and opportunity for Tucson’s most vulnerable children. A full list of recipient organizations follows.
One program funded by PCF is Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, serving daughters and their incarcerated mothers. Debbie Rich, Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona’s CEO, couldn’t be more proud of the program. “With this award we can help more girls at risk cope with difficult life situations and emerge from them as strong, wise and caring young women.”
Pam Gaber, CEO of Gabriel’s Angels cites PCF support as “an outstanding example of corporate philanthropy in our community. Their generous contribution will provide healing pet therapy to 50 abused, neglected and at-risk children in Southern Arizona this year.”
